Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Glenn D. DeShields, Senior Pastor/Teacher

Pastor Glenn D. DeShields was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and held several leadership positions. In 1990 and 1991, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Pastor DeShields has been blessed to travel to many places, sharing God’s Word. In July of 2005, after 23 years of faithful service, he retired from the U.S. Army.

 

On May 9, 1984, while attending a Bible Study with his sister, God’s Word convinced, convicted and converted him and he turned his life over to Jesus Christ. He joined and was baptized at Nazarene Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA.

 

In 1999, God directed his path to Grace Temple Baptist Church in Lawnside, NJ where he served in various ministries. On May 25, 2003, Pastor Reggie Johnson, Senior Pastor of Grace Temple Baptist Church, appointed and ordained him as a Deacon where he eventually became Chairman of the Deacons Ministry. God placed a calling on his life and on December 30, 2007, Pastor Reggie Johnson confirmed that calling and licensed him as a Minister o​f the Gospel. God placed a higher calling on his life and with Pastor Johnson’s continued leadership, mentorship, and guidance; on October 24, 2010, Pastor Johnson in accordance with the Bethany Baptist Association of South Jersey confirmed that calling and ordained then Minister DeShields to the office of Pastor.

 

Pastor DeShields is a certified Teacher/Trainer with Evangelism Explosion International. He was selected as class leader of his ordination class with the Bethany Baptist Association of South Jersey’s School of Ordination, where he was in the first graduating class. He served as a mentor for the NJ Department of Corrections Chaplaincy Network assisting inmates in making the transition from prison back into society. Pastor DeShields is a certified Biblical Teacher through the Evangelical Teaching Association. He was selected to be an Advisor to the City of Woodbury’s Human Rights Commission. Pastor DeShields was appointed and serves as a Police Chaplain with the City of Woodbury's Police Department. He is the President of the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides food, clothing and resources to families in need. Pastor DeShields is a sought-out seminar instructor, conducting workshops on Evangelism, Spiritual Gifts, Strategic Planning, Biblical Teaching and Spiritual Leadership. 

 

On August 27, 2017, Pastor DeShields was asked to be the Interim Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Woodbury, NJ. After 8 months as Interim Pastor; God’s plan became more evident and on April 15, 2018, Pastor DeShields was installed as the 11th Senior Pastor in the church's rich 123 year history.

Pastor DeShields is a proud father and loves his greatest blessing, his children.

He loves serving the Lord and is thankful to God each day for the free gift of eternal life, which saved him from eternal damnation.

 

Pastor DeShields' life Bible verse is, 1 Peter 4:10-11, “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”
